Beautiful turquoise bodies with orange spots and big gold eyes make the Tokay look very appealing. They are very vocal and make sounds similar to “to-kay” as to where the name derives. They are not friendly like the more common Leopard, Day or House gecko species. In fact they will let you know who is in charge, drawing blood in the process. This is not a lizard for a beginner. They have no eyelids, just a specialized scale to protect their eyes. This gives them the appearance of always being awake. They are great at climbing up glass surfaces and are very quick.

| Habitat |
20 gallon aquarium works well. Have plenty of hiding spots and a secure lid. Keep humidity at 70%.

| Diet |
Gut loaded, calcium dusted crickets are fine. For the adult, an occasional pinky mouse is good. Adults do not eat everyday.

| Water | They will seldom drink water from a bowl and will usually lick the water of the plants after misting. |
| Handling | The Tokay needs to be taken slowly, over a period of a few months. Slowly work up to it, as you need to gain their trust and respect first. Even the most tame of Tokays will still latch on their human counter parts on occasion. |
