Aromatic Flowers and Other Fragrant Fall Décor Ideas

For a cozy, yet luxurious autumn home atmosphere, think beyond the basic pumpkins and fall leaf motifs. Integrating fragrant décor elements like flowers and herbs will create a warm and relaxing fall ambience. There are plenty of creative ways to bring the comfort of rich fall aromas into your home. Here’s some inspiration to get you started!

Make A Fragrant Fall Flower Bouquet

Of course, the first place to start is in the garden; bring in those incredible fragrant flowers from the garden! Plenty of late-summer bloomers are still flowering through the fall! Here are a few of the most fragrant flowers and plants available in fall for an exquisite table bouquet:

  • Coneflower
  • Rose
  • Tiger Lily

Consider drying your flowers so they last all season—not just a few short weeks. Your fall bouquet will still hold a light fragrance even after it’s dried.

Potted Culinary Herb Plants

Fall is a time to enjoy our delicious garden harvests and share amazing meals with family. Fresh garden herbs are the finishing touch that makes your fall feasts really spectacular. While you might normally assume herbs are reserved for the garden and aren’t considered ornamental, indoor herb gardens can look quite pretty in festive containers. Here are our favorite fall herbs to grow indoors:

  • Rosemary
  • Sage
  • Chocolate mint
  • Savory
  • Lemon balm
  • Oregano
  • Thyme
  • Basil

When you decorate with fresh herb plants indoors, you can enjoy their delightful scents all day long—not just when you’re sitting down to dinner.

DIY Reed Diffusers

Mix mineral oil with your own custom blend of essential oils, and fill a small glass bottle. Purchase a package of rattan reeds, and insert a few into the bottle to disperse the scent. For aesthetics, you can add additional elements like dried flower petals, dried garden herbs, or star anise. Some of our favorite popular fragrant fall essential oils include:

  • Wintergreen
  • Sandalwood
  • Cardamom
  • Cinnamon
  • Lemon
  • Sweet orange
  • Cranberry
  • Bergamot

Feel free to get artsy and embellish the diffuser bottle with small seasonal décor accents. Try wrapping some ribbon or twine around the bottle and attaching a tiny branch with a few berries.

Add Pumpkin Spice Scent To Your Decorative Pillows and Throws

Can’t get enough of that pumpkin spice? Fill a spritz bottle with one-part distilled water and one-part cheap vodka. Then, add a few drops each of the following essential oils:

  • Clove
  • Ginger
  • Cinnamon
  • Cardamom
  • Sweet orange

Shake it up, and you’ve got a sweetly scented linen spray that perfectly captures that ever-popular pumpkin spice blend. Spray it on pillows, throws, and other fabric décor to help neutralize those musty odors that may accumulate from sitting in a storage bin for months.

Fragrant Cinnamon Spice Embellishments

Cinnamon sticks are such cute and versatile decorative accents. Use a piece of twine to secure them onto other fall decorations, like candle holders or your fragrant flower bouquets! You can also use cinnamon oil to infuse that spicy scent into DIY decorations. For a festive fall centerpiece, rinse some pinecones and dry them in the oven on low heat. Then, spritz them with a mixture of water and cinnamon oil. Let them dry, then add them into a bowl with other cute fall decorations like miniature gourds and twigs with berries.
